Asbestos exposure may occur during home renovation projects, leading to mesothelioma lung disease later in life.

Over the past three decades, thousands of people who did home renovation have unwittingly risked contracting mesothelioma.

Home renovation is considered to constitute a "third wave" of men and women with asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis and other cancers caused by asbestos.

There are thousands of parents that didn't know the danger of asbestos and were exposed to it when doing their home renovations and DIY projects.

In addition, the kids who were hanging around when their mom or dad did renovation work on the garage, den, or patio area at home are also developing mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma has a latency period up to 30 years or more, requires only a short exposure and can kill within months of diagnosis.

Asbestos was in the cement sheeting used in the construction of homes in decades past.

The popularity over the past two decades of home renovation to save money had made asbestos exposure a risk common to those renovating nearly all homes, including brick houses, in which it was used in the waterproofing of bathrooms and in linoleum weave.

The first wave of asbestos-related diseases took place from the 1930s, when asbestos was first manufactured.

The second wave began in the 1950s, when workers were exposed to asbestos particles--electricians, carpenters and mechanics.

The third wave is those who are exposed during home renovation.

Many home renovators have come forward to say their work led to a diagnosis of mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer from asbestos.

If this has been your experience, we may be able to help.

For over two decades, Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. has handled some of the most legally complicated and groundbreaking asbestos litigation in the country. Men and women diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure or secondary exposure may be entitled to compensation from the companies responsible for their disease.
