Did you Develop Mesothelioma After Working as a Machinist in the Navy?
A jury in Los Angeles has awarded $9.7 million to a man who said he developed mesothelioma decades after he was exposed to asbestos while serving as a Navy machinist's mate, reported the Associated Press on May 23, 2008.
The man was reportedly diagnosed last year with malignant mesothelioma. The article says he believed the disease was a result of exposure to asbestos-packed gaskets while serving on the Navy ship the USS Preble from 1961 to 1965.
According to the Associated Press article, doctors testified during the trial that the former Navy man probably has less than a year to live.
Sadly, this situation is all too familiar to the mesothelioma attorneys in the Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. Asbestos Litigation unit.
