MESOTHELIOMA PIPEFITTER
Every pipefitter runs a serious risk of developing the deadliest of asbestos-related cancers, mesothelioma

Because of regular exposure to asbestos materials, mesothelioma is the greatest health threat a professional pipefitter faces.

Weitz & Luxenberg has protected the legal rights of asbestos-injured workers since 1986. Since then, the firm's mesothelioma lawyers have won several billion dollars in verdicts and settlements for clients injured by occupational asbestos exposure.

Feature story

November 10, 2009 – The work responsibilities of a pipefitter include duties that regularly expose them to toxic asbestos-containing materials, long known to cause asbestos-related cancers like mesothelioma.

By definition, a pipefitter is someone who installs and repairs steam and heating systems and regularly works on all parts of asbestos-insulated heavy machinery and equipment, including boilers, radiators, oil burners, pumps, pipes and valves.

These varied tasks all have one element in common; they all carry a danger of asbestos exposure, which can lead to fatal occupational diseases like mesothelioma cancer.

There is currently no cure for mesothelioma. Mesothelioma treatments such as chemotherapy, surgery and radiation can be given in order to help stop the spread of the cancer or to alleviate its symptoms, but mesothelioma is usually fatal within two years of being diagnosed.

Mesothelioma symptoms include coughing, chest pain, weakness or fatigue, and difficulty breathing. Any retired pipefitter exhibiting these symptoms should seek a medical examination immediately. The sooner a diagnosis is made, the more likely a better prognosis can be made.

Throughout most of the 20th century, asbestos insulation was used wherever heat or flame was a concern, like in the engine room of a ship.

A pipefitter is often employed in shipyards. Sea-going vessels frequently contain large amounts of asbestos insulation throughout their bulkheads, particularly in the engine room where most pipefitting tasks are carried out.

Time to seek justice

Many pipefitters have come to our firm with serious questions about the asbestos threat in gas pipes and their eligibility for compensation. (Please see questionnaire at left.)

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and seek a free case review, please notify us through the communication form at left. We will pursue your claim with vigilance to help you pay for medical bills, lost wages and suffering.

Please know, the firm works on a contingency basis so there is no cost to you until we obtain a verdict or reach a settlement for you and your family.
