Railroad car floors contained asbestos, placing workers at risk for mesothelioma.
In recent news about the dangers of asbestos exposure, a man who put together railroad car floors died of mesothelioma cancer after coming into contact with carcinogen 40 years ago.
The ex-railroad employee, 70, died of mesothelioma in September.
He had worked from 1954 to 1995 on the railroad at a factory that made and repaired the car floors.
His family has opted to bring a lawsuit, charging that his work caused mesothelioma.
According to court documents, his job of putting the floors of train coaches together constantly exposed him to asbestos dust.
That dust, it is claimed led to him dying of bronchopneumonia which had taken hold due to the mesothelioma tumor in his right lung.
He was diagnosed with mesothelioma just a week before he died at the hospital and had already received one session of chemotherapy.
Many railroad workers who fixed or manufactured the car floors have come forward to say their work environment led to a diagnosis of mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer from asbestos.
