International Mesothelioma Symposium in Washington, D.C., June 25–27
The 2009 International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma
Weitz & Luxenberg has represented workers diagnosed with occupational asbestos disease for 25 years – longer than most law firms in the nation. And in that time the firm's mesothelioma lawyers have won well over a billion dollars in verdicts and settlements for its clients. Among the many calendar events we share with our readers, we find the following symposium of great interest.
May 28, 2009 – The 2009 International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma, organized by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation), is set to be held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C., from June 25 – June 27.
The annual symposium raises public awareness about asbestos-related diseases, like mesothelioma, by identifying advances in cancer research and discussing the latest medical findings. Medical experts will attend the event and provide details on various clinical trials, treatments, and research.
Many other guests will also be in attendance, including sufferers of the asbestos-related cancer, campaigners, advocates, and those that provide care for mesothelioma patients.
Following the event, the foundation will honor those that are living with the disease. The foundation will also present the three annual awards that it gives for political support, research contributions, and community support.

Mesothelioma is a fatal cancer associated with occupational exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma has no known cure, and most patients die within a year to 18 months after a diagnosis. The latency period between exposure and a diagnosis is commonly 20 to 40 years, though it can be longer.
Government sources estimate that in the next decade more than 35,000 people nationwide will be diagnosed with mesothelioma. This disease is most often the result of industrial workplace exposure to asbestos – and usually contracted through employers’ blatant preference for profits over worker health safety. That’s why persons diagnosed with mesothelioma, and surviving family members, have strong cases in court.
If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and seek a free legal consultation, please notify us through the communication form on this page. We will pursue your claim with vigilance. And because we work on a contingency basis, there is no cost to you at all until we win a settlement or verdict.
