Former Mechanical Engineer in the Navy Dies of Mesothelioma from Asbestos

A former mechanical engineer who was exposed to asbestos during his time in the Navy, has died of mesothelioma, reported the Scarborough Evening News on August 22, 2008.

The man, who was 76, was diagnosed with mesothelioma in September 2006.

His widow said that her husband had worked as a mechanical engineer in the Navy, a job which had involved scraping asbestos off pipes.

She claims that they weren’t provided with safety equipment because asbestos, now a known carcinogen, wasn’t seen as dangerous at that time.

Many mechanical engineers in the Navy have come forward to say their work environment led to a diagnosis of mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer from asbestos.

If this has been your experience, we may be able to help.

For over two decades, Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. has handled some of the most legally complicated and groundbreaking asbestos litigation in the country. Men and women diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure or secondary exposure may be entitled to compensation from the companies responsible for their disease.
