Working with asbestos floor tiles can cause mesothelioma cancer and other diseases

In recent news about the dangers of asbestos, a beautician who claimed she was fired for speaking out about asbestos in the floor tiles at her job has obtained an asbestos lawsuit settlement, according to the Daily Record.

The beautician reportedly noticed that the floor tiles of the beauty salon where she worked were breaking up and becoming discolored. She said she asked her employers to have the floor repaired, but those requests went unanswered for nearly a year.

She believed the tiles contained asbestos after speaking with a maintenance worker.

She said no work to mitigate the asbestos risk was done when the old tiles were removed.

She then took the removed floor tiles to an outside laboratory, she said, which reportedly found hazardous asbestos levels in the tiles.

Asphalt and vinyl asbestos floor tiles were popular in the U.S. from 1920 into the 1970s.

Those who manufactured these asbestos floor tiles have put the public at risk of developing serious asbestos-related diseases.
