A woman whose father and brother both died of mesothelioma is speaking out about the illness,
which looms over the rest of her family according to the Feb. 14, 2008 edition
of the Hartpool Mail in the United Kingdom.
The two were exposed to asbestos when they worked as insulators in local
powerhouses.
The article said the woman hopes to raise awareness of the disease, and
worries that the rest of her family is at risk from secondary exposure to the toxic
asbestos dust. Her father, she said, used to come home covered in white dust and
that family members used to hug him. Her mother, she said in the article, would
shake the dust out in the home, exposing the entire family.
Her brother
and father were insulation laggers in
power stations across England, where they came in contact with the deadly
asbestos carcinogen.
The family has set up a memorial fund.
Sadly, this situation is all too familiar to the attorneys in the Weitz &
Luxenberg P.C. Asbestos Litigation unit here in the United States.
