Former employer ordered by court to pay workers who were forced to retire due to asbestos exposure.
A French court ordered the former employer of 17 workers forced to retire early because of asbestos exposure to pay compensation for lost earnings, according to Reuters on June 27, 2008.
The ruling could also encourage other affected workers who had put off seeking early
retirement for financial reasons to now do so.
It also ordered the
company to pay for stress and anxiety to the workers, none of whom has so far
contracted an asbestos-related
disease.
Sadly, as the lawyers in the Weitz & Luxenberg Asbestos Litigation unit have seen through their
work, this is a common example of people who were exposed to carcinogens simply
because the powers that be failed to have in place routine safety
measures.
Weitz & Luxenberg is a leading plaintiffs' law firm that
has represented people affected by mesothelioma for over 20 years. Men and women
diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure may be entitled to
compensation from the companies responsible for their disease.
