The family of a former supervisor of boilermakers in England who died from mesothelioma has won an asbestos compensation lawsuit, reported the Tottenham Journal on July 2, 2008.
The man died at age 79 from mesothelioma cancer after years of exposure to asbestos.
He reportedly worked as a foreman between 1968 and 1971, supervising men who worked with asbestos materials.
He then supervised employees stripping out boilers lagged with asbestos.
According to the article, he was never given any protection from asbestos by his employers despite regularly questioning them about health and safety at work.
The family decided to pursue compensation after one of the man's colleagues was helped to make personal injury claims by a non-profit group.
Sadly, as the lawyers in the Weitz & Luxenberg Asbestos Litigation unit have seen through their work, this is a common example of people who were exposed to carcinogens simply because the powers that be failed to have in place routine safety measures.
