Resources By Phone
The American Cancer Society (ACS) understands how overwhelming a cancer diagnosis can be for the patient and their families. In order to assist patients and caregivers, the ACS provides toll free numbers for patients and caregivers to ask questions and obtain other vital information. They are available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1-800-4-CANCER (1-800-422-6237). Deaf and hard-of-hearing callers with TTY equipment may call 1-800-332-8615.
Publications
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has written materials for patients, families and caregivers. The publications focus on a number of topics, including treatment methods, tips on coping with the disease and information on clinical trials. The materials can be ordered from the NCI Web site’s publications locator (https://cissecure.nci.nih.gov/ncipubs/).
Other Organizations and Web sites
There are many other places where patients and caregivers can obtain information and answers to their questions. Your doctor’s office and the cancer center at your hospital may have information on local and regional agencies that can provide assistance with home care, transportation for medical treatment, and other resources. A list of organizations and Web sites that offer information and services for cancer patients and their families is available on the American Cancer Society’s Web site (http://cancer.gov).
