Farmer dies of mesothelioma. Asbestos exposure linked to construction farm jobs

A farmer died of the asbestos disease mesothelioma three decades after participating in construction of a contaminated pig shelter, according to the Blackburn Citizen newspaper in the United Kingdom.

The newspaper reported that the 69-year-old had suffered breathing difficulties for a few weeks before his death. He was retired after working as a construction worker and farmer.

The Citizen said a court heard evidence that he had worked in the mid 1970s building a piggery, which involved cutting sheets of asbestos.
