Breakthrough Early Detection Test for Mesothelioma Patients
July, 2008 -- The diagnostic test is a result of a collaborative effort between Rosetta Genomics Ltd. and the Columbia University Medical Center. The two organizations have come up with a test that can differentiate between two superficially similar forms of lung cancer, allowing for clear early detection of mesothelioma.
The research is being hailed as a breakthrough because the rare cancer often appears similar to other less deadly types of lung cancer. Because of the misdiagnosis, the disease is often left to spread quickly and become fatal within a matter of months.
