Baltimore jury orders sealant company to pay 73-year-old man with mesothelioma $15.3 million
January 31, 2008
The Baltimore Sun is reporting that a jury there
has just ordered a sealant company to award a 73-year-old man $15.3 million
after determining that he developed mesothelioma from exposure to
asbestos-containing products made by the company, the plaintiff's lawyer
said.
The man, George J. Linkus, worked at Key Highway Shipyard from 1952
to 1959, said his lawyer, David L. Palmer.
According to the article, in
1954, Linkus moved to the machine shop and worked on lining valves using rope
made by the defendant, John Crane Inc.
It was discovered that the rope
used by Linkus contained asbestos.
Sadly, such cases of entirely
avoidable exposure to asbestos are quite common. Since 1986, our lawyers have
dedicated themselves to helping those with mesothelioma and their families seek
compensation for their illness.
