On January 9, 2008, the Tennessee Supreme Court in Knoxville, adressed one of
the latest mesothelioma lawsuits. It was
filed in 2003 by a young woman--now deceased--against ALCOA Inc. and Breeding
Insulation Co. in Blount County Circuit Court, according to The Daily
Times newspaper in Tennessee.
In the suit, the woman--who was just 23
when she was diagnosed with the asbestos-related cancer--charged that she was exposed to asbestos from her father's use of
asbestos products and inadvertent introduction of dust and fibers into their
home, reported the Times.
Sadly, this young woman lost her battle
with mesothelioma two years later.
Her father became the representative
of her estate, and continued with the suit after her death.
Her father
hauled asbestos for ALCOA, starting his career with the company in 1973. He
served in the military from 1975 to 1978 and then returned to work at
ALCOA.
According to the article, the Tennessee Supreme Court Justices are
expected to issue a written opinion on the case within three
months.
Sadly, such cases of entirely avoidable
exposure to asbestos are quite common. Since 1986, our lawyers have dedicated themselves
to helping those with mesothelioma and their families seek compensation for their
illness.
