If you have been exposed to asbestos, you may not show any symptoms of a lung disease such as mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer until 30 to 50 years after you were exposed.

Common symptoms of mesothelioma include:

Shortness of breath
Pain in the lower back, shoulder or the wall of the chest
The appearance of a lump on the wall of the chest
A persistent dry cough
Loss of energy, anemia or a persistent fatigue
Unexplained weight loss
A change in the voice or persistent hoarseness
Persistent swelling in the face or arms
General muscle weakness
Pain in the abdomen
Abdominal distention or bloating
Nausea or vomiting
Fluid in the abdomen or chest lining
