Mesothelioma Patient News: Learn about Others with Mesothelioma
Have you been diagnosed with mesothelioma? Are you concerned about how it impacts you and your family? Two recent stories highlight two patients living with mesothelioma.
Glen Long, who lives in Pender County, North Carolina, spoke of living with mesothelioma in an April 2007 article in the Wilmington Star-News. Mr. Long was diagnosed in March 2006 and has been treated at the Duke University Cancer Clinic in Durham. After a course of chemotherapy, he returned to Duke in February 2007 for further evaluation. The CAT scan results were good, and his oncologist, Dr. Jeffrey Crawford of Duke, stated that the cancer had been stabilized. Mr. Long is due back to see his medical team in July 2007 for a follow-up CAT scan. Mr. Long is living with his diagnosis and prognosis, but told the Wilmington Star-News that “…life has improved. I can’t run races or anything but can do some things…”
A woman living in Shropshire, United Kingdom was profiled in the April 17, 2007 edition of The Shropshire Star Newspaper. This woman, who is in her 30’s, developed Mesothelioma as a result of being exposed to asbestos. In 1983, she was outside playing at the time a massive explosion and fire occurred at a military base near her home. The asbestos on the roof of the building fell over 15 miles away from the base, and the woman recalled that at the time of the fire, the asbestos “fell like snow” all over the area.
