Scottish politician, a former boilermaker, dies of mesothelioma
A Scottish Labour MP and former boilermaker, John MacDougall, has died after battling mesothelioma, reported Sky News on August 13, 2008.
He was diagnosed with the asbestos-related lung cancer, two years ago.
According to the article, Mr. MacDougall worked as a boilermaker and a union shop steward before becoming an elected official.
His role in politics spanned nearly 20 years.
Unfortunately, Mr. MacDougall's hard work as a boilermaker may have led to his mesothelioma diagnosis.
Boilermakers install or make boilers. They also often repair and conduct maintenance of boilers. Asbestos was a major component in boilers in years past, largely due to its heat and fire-resistant properties.
