If you have just been diagnosed with mesothelioma you may feel alone all of a sudden. You are not alone. In fact, you will discover that you have many new friends who share your situation and can advise you in your fight against lung cancer or mesothelioma. There are many resources at your disposal, but the most comforting of all can be the relationships you develop at support groups.
Joining a support group will give you access to counseling, financial
assistance and friendships with other people who have also been diagnosed with
lung cancer or mesothelioma. Support groups are a wonderful informational
resource.
Cancer
411, for example, is a support group that provides information on treatment
options. Their Web site has a message board that helps cancer patients
communicate with each other and share ideas. Interested? Here are some more support groups. Also, please
check back because we update our Web site regularly as we receive new
information on acting support groups.
Discover the latest advances in medical treatments.
To occupy your
mind during this difficult period, learn more about groundbreaking treatments
that are now available or are currently being developed. Cancer patients, for
example, can benefit by participating in clinical trials that research hospitals
frequently schedule to test the effectiveness of a promising new anticancer
drug. In a clinical trial late last year, hospitals in Europe successfully
tested a new anticancer drug, “Vinflunine” (pronounced VIN-floo-neen), which
helped improve the response and survival rates of patients diagnosed with
mesothelioma. And as recently as 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
approved the very first drug for this condition -- “Alimta” -- which, when used
in combination with cisplatin, also improves survival rates. Another study
surprisingly showed that talcum
powder stunts the growth of tumors in lung cancer patients.
Stay
informed about new treatments. This proactive attitude will help you stay
positive and more confident, especially during important conversations with your
doctor. And please check our Web site often because we will update it as we
learn of new treatment options.

Good reading material.
Read books to learn how others in your
position live their lives.
One book we can recommend is "Surviving
Mesothelioma: A Patient's Guide," written by Paul Kraus, a person afflicted with
mesothelioma. Paul encourages taking an active approach to treatment and
implementing dietary changes to improve your health and immune system. Paul also
has a Web site where he provides advice to mesothelioma patients. Take a

Your legal rights won't last forever!
The asbestos industry has a
long track record of hiding the dangers of asbestos from workers for the sake of
higher profits.
Just as important as learning about your condition and
up-to-date treatment options, you also need to inquire about your legal rights.
This is a responsibility that only you can exercise; the asbestos industry,
because of their direct involvement in your medical situation, will not help you
realize your legal rights.
Weitz & Luxenberg has recovered millions of dollars
for people who contracted cancer through asbestos exposure. In May, 2007, for
example, the firm obtained a jury verdict of $37 million for two smokers with
lung cancer who had been exposed to asbestos (Index Nos. 100016/99 and
113583/05, New York Supreme Court). The defendant was Robert A. Keasbey Company,
a former insulation contractor and distributor of asbestos products that have the potential to cause mesothelioma.
We have the track
record to help you and your loved ones obtain a secure financial future, and
offset soaring medical bills brought on by an employer who put profits ahead of
worker health safety.
Please know, the clock to get legal help starts
