April 1, 2008, New York, NY — The recent news that W.R. Grace & Co. agreed to pay the federal government $250 million for environmental cleanup of asbestos around its vermiculite mining operations in Libby, Montana, emphasizes the need to raise public awareness of asbestos diseases, such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.

In recognition of the U.S. Senate’s resolution designating the first week of April as National Asbestos Awareness Week, Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. congratulates the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) for proposing the legislation, with Senator Harry Reid support, and for continuing to inform communities about asbestos-related health risks.
