BREAKING NEWS:
"Cargill has admitted it used the very same chemicals found in contaminated plumes of groundwater."-- Grand Island Independent, October 12, 2007

"Cargill's admission that it used the chemicals contaminating the groundwater is a significant development in our lawsuit."
--Lemuel Srolovic, Weitz & Luxenberg environmental attorney.

Contaminated Drinking Water Threatens Health and Property of Nebraskans

It is a routine deceit committed all across the country: corporations pollute a community’s groundwater with harmful chemicals and then refuse to take responsibility. This scenario is an intimate one for many residents of Grand Island, Nebraska, who now know their groundwater is tainted by toxic industrial solvents.

In our quest to seek justice for communities that have been harmed by the negligence of corporate polluters, the Environmental Toxic Torts Unit of Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. has filed a lawsuit against Cargill, Incorporated.

That company's former seed treating facility in Southwest Grand Island, Nebraska is responsible for having contaminated the drinking water supply wells in the Castle Estates, Kentish Hills, and Marylane communities.

Communities Mobilize

Nearly 200 current or former residents of those areas are participating in the suit, which alleges that Cargill, the global food giant, is responsible for a dangerous plume of solvents that is threatening the health and property of area residents.

A groundwater study released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in July 2006, traced the source of the contamination to the former Cargill facility. While admitting it used the toxic chemicals in its former Grand Island facility, Cargill claims that use was limited to small amounts.
