Oleums are mixtures of sulfur trioxide in sulfuric acid and are produced in several strengths. This type of potent chemical spilled over at a plant in Petrolia, PA, causing several people to be rushed to the hospital.

Other health effects related to oleum include eye irritation. The Environmental Protection Agency is currently investigating what caused the overflow of oleum at the plant, Indspec Chemical Corp.
