In recent news, a woman died of pleural mesothelioma after she was exposed to her father’s asbestos-contaminated overalls as a child.
The 66-year-old woman reportedly developed chest problems in 2007, but a confirmed diagnosis of pleural mesothelioma was never made until after her death.
The woman spent her professional life working as an accountant and never came into contact with asbestos through her own work.
Her father, however, died of the asbestos-related pleural mesothelioma in 2006 after coming into contact with the substance during his time at a railroad company as a younger man.
He was a fitter and back then, they didn’t have showers. He would come home in his overalls and they would be dirty, covered in asbestos dust.
