Panel: Brockovich Right about Dangers of Hexavalent Chromium in Water
May 17, 2007--An article in MedPage Today says scientists have now
confirmed that Erin Brockovich was right in her assertion that hexavalent
chromium in drinking water might be a health hazard.
Brockovich first
made that suggestion 16 years ago, and, after a two-year animal study, the
National Toxicology Program has said there is "clear evidence of carinogenic
activity" if the chemical is consumed in drinking water, MedPage Today
reported.
Brockovich made national headlines after helping to win a
lawsuit in 1996, in which a $333 million settlement was awarded to those who had
been reportedly harmed after Pacific Gas & Electric Company polluted their
town's water.
