Power plant worker achieves mesothelioma settlement
Power plant worker brings asbestos cancer lawsuit and is victorious
A power plant worker from Queens, New York has received a mesothelioma settlement after developing the asbestos cancer from on-the-job exposure to the carcinogen.
The former powerhouse worker, 75, developed mesothelioma from asbestos fibers during his five years as a maintenance electrician at a power station, where he worked in the 1960s.
He brought a mesothelioma lawsuit and was awarded the settlement last week.
His mesothelioma lawyer said that although the money won't return his quality of life, it will help make him more comfortable and provide security for his family.
His client was diagnosed with the asbestos disease in May after experiencing breathing problems. He now requires around-the-clock care.
Many employers were aware of the dangers of breathing in asbestos dust and fibers but failed to communicate those dangers to their workers.
The ex-power plant employee said he hoped to raise awareness about the dangers of asbestos in old buildings and homes.
He also thanked his former coworkers, some of whom have also developed mesothelioma cancer, for their support and for providing evidence to back up his claim.
