Rehabilitation: Hearing Loss
People who become deaf in adulthood can generally benefit from aural
rehabilitation.
Training in school is typically practical for those that
become deaf at a young age, or those that are born deaf.
Rehabilitation
trains those that are deaf to communicate by reading lips and using hearing
aids. Additionally, the individual is taught how to adjust his/her speaking
volume, as those that are deaf tend to speak extremely loud because they can not
hear themselves.
Other assistive devices, such as phones, door bells,
and alarms may be recommended by a physician.
