Rehabilitation: Arm Amputation

Arm amputations are largely the result of an accident, though a small portion are due to surgery as treatment of certain diseases.

After amputation, the individual is usually fitted with a prosthesis (an artificial limb). Rehabilitation of an arm amputee generally includes exercises to allow the individual to get accustomed to using the prosthesis.

Individual rehabilitation programs are designed based on whether the arm amputation was below or above the elbow, and whether one or both arms were amputated.
