Antipsychotics: Seroquel & Zyprexa

Antipsychotics Seroquel and Zyprexa are used for the treatment of schizophrenia.

In 2005, Seroquel passed Zyprexa as the top-selling antipsychotic in the United States, and it has fallen in two years from the fifth-best-selling drug in America to the 15th, according to consulting firm IMS Health.

U.S. Zyprexa sales have slumped 24% to $2.4 billion even as the overall schizophrenia market rose 25% to $10 billion.

Seroquel is manufactured by AstraZeneca and Zyprexa by Eli Lilly.

QUOTABLES
Dangerous Drug & Medical Device Attorney David Rosenband of Weitz & Luxenberg reports that the firm was on the steering committee of the MDL litigation for the atypical antipsychotic drug Zyprexa. The committee secured $700 million in payments for 800 victims who developed diabetes after taking Zyprexa.

Medical questions should only be answered by a doctor or other health care professional.

Weitz & Luxenberg is no longer accepting Seroquel cases.
