FDA Issues Alert: Mead Johnson Infant Formula Products Stolen in Ohio
On November 20, 2009, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the following advisory regarding the theft of approximately 5,000 cases of Enfamil® and other infant formula products made by Mead Johnson stolen in Ohio.
Consumers should be aware of serious health risks associated with the purchase or use of stolen food or drug products, including product tampering that may affect the safety or strength of a food or drug product.
Mead Johnson Nutrition is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Office of Criminal Investigations (FDA), and other law enforcement officials to recover cases of infant formula products that were stolen from a truck stop in Jeffersonville, Ohio, on November 13, 2009.

Product batch numbers can be found on both sides of each case, as well as on the bottom of each can.
Consumers should purchase Mead Johnson products only from well established and reputable retailers. If consumers purchase Mead Johnson products from other sources they should inspect the product and label for signs of tampering before opening the product. Mead Johnson infant formula products are packaged in “tamper-evident” cans, meaning that if the package has been opened, it will be evident to the consumers.
Retailers, wholesalers and institutions who receive their product directly from Mead Johnson are not affected by this notification.
Mead Johnson Nutrition and the FDA are asking for the public’s help in reporting any information regarding the stolen Mead Johnson products to FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations (OCI) by calling (800) 551-3989 or by visiting the OCI website.
