Strattera Heart Attack
Strattera has recently been found to cause heart attacks in its users, adults and children alike.
A heart attack is a serious sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness.
A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
Since the area affected may be large or small, the severity of heart attacks vary, but they are often a life-threatening medical emergency which demand both immediate attention and activation of the emergency medical services.
The FDA is currently investigating the connection between ADHD drugs (such as Strattera) and their risks to the cardiovascular system:
Public health officials are concerned that stimulants may be inappropriately prescribed for some adults with ADHD. "Stimulants do work, but we know that they increase blood pressure and pulse rate, which could lead to strokes and heart attacks." says Paul Andreason, M.D, a drug reviewer in the FDA's Division of Neuropharmacological Drug Products. "These drugs are very strongly labeled for their risk to the cardiovascular system," he adds.
Weitz & Luxenberg is no longer accepting Strattera cases.
