Weitz & Luxenberg is no longer accepting Stryker Hip Implant Cases
Lawsuit Filed Against Stryker in Pitsburgh, Pennsylvania
In August 2008, a medical supply company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania filed a lawsuit against six medical
device companies. The defendants included Stryker Orthopedics and Stryker
Inc., which manufactures Trident hip replacement components. The Trident
products were recalled in
January 2008.
The lawsuit alleges that from 1988 to 2007, the defendants provided several
southwestern Pennsylvania doctors and hospitals with kickbacks and other illegal
payments, which prevented the Pittsburgh company from remaining competitive.
A spokesperson for the U.S. attorney's office in New Jersey commenting on the
lawsuit stated that while an investigation is continuing, the majority of
doctors who received payments from the defendants did so as part of either
consulting agreements, or in the case of some doctors who worked with the
companies in intellectual property and design improvements, were paid as part of
royalty agreements.
