Tequin (Gatifloxacin) is an antibiotic of the
fluoroquinolone family. Pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb introduced
Gatifloxacin in 1999 under the name Tequin®. It is available as tablets and in

A Canadian study to be published in the New England Journal of Medicine on
March 30, 2006 claims Tequin® can have "life threatening" side effects including
serious diabetes. An editorial by Dr. Jerry Gurwitz calls for the FDA to
consider giving Tequin® a black box warning.
