Accutane and Birth Defects: Discover the Link!

You have probably heard that Accutane causes a number of side effects, but were you aware that Accutane may cause birth defects if taken during pregnancy. More than 2,000 women became pregnant between 1982 and 2004 while taking Accutane. The majority of these pregnancies ended in abortion. One-hundred sixty babies were born with serious birth defects.

Generically known as Isotretinoin, Accutane is a teratogen. Under US Law, female users must be on two separate, effective types of birth control. Male users must be strictly ordered not to share the drug with female patients because of this risk.
