When residents of The Acreage became alarmed by perceived high incidences of cancer in their Florida community, they contacted environmental advocate Erin Brockovich.

Brockovich has gotten many calls from Acreage residents worried about cancer rates and wanting to learn more.

The state Department of Health late this month is expected to announce if a brain cancer cluster exists there, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Brockovich, who has a relationship with Weitz & Luxenberg, contacted our firm to see if we could help.

Our environmental lawyers have responded to the call, opting to do a preliminary background investigation. We hope to uncover if there is a likelihood that there is an environmental exposure that is contributing to these diseases, and whether there is legal recourse for that exposure.

Nearly all 50,000 Acreage residents rely on well water.

Some have raised concerns over Pratt & Whitney's 7,000 acres several miles away, The Post reported.

The jet engine maker has had a history of toxic leaks.
