Toluene Lawsuit Information - Fighting Back Against Polluters

When Congress passed the Safe Drinking Water Act in 1974, the law required the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to determine and regulate safe levels of chemicals in drinking water. All public water supplies must abide by these regulations. Learn about the dangers and how to file a lawsuit in this section if you or your community have been exposed to unsafe drinking water.

Toluene is an unhealthy chemical that may be found in some public or private drinking water supplies, and it can cause serious health problems if levels exceed regulations.

From 1987 to 1993, toluene releases to land and water totalled over 4 million pounds, primarily from petroleum refining industries, according to EPA's Toxic Chemical Release Inventory report. The largest releases occurred in Texas and California. The largest releases directly to water occurred in Connecticut and West Virginia.

When people are exposed to toluene at above-regulated levels it can cause such health hazards as: minor nervous system disorders, including fatigue, nausea, weakness, or confusion. Long-term exposure to toluene can cause more pronounced nervous disorders, such as spasms; tremors; impairment of speech, hearing, vision, memory, or coordination; and liver, kidney or heart damage.

If you or someone you love has been hurt due to toluene pollution, a lawyer can help you file a toluene lawsuit, collect damages for medical costs or lost wages, and hold the polluters responsible.
