Toyota Corolla recall comes too late for Wisconsin man

Toyota Motor Corp. has issued a recall of some of its top-selling models, including the Toyota Corolla 2009-2010 models and Toyota Corolla Matrix 2009-2010 models.

Unfortunately, this recall comes too late for a man who crashed his 2010 Toyota Corolla, the Milwaukee TV station WISN reported.

Reportedly, the man attempted to merge into traffic on a local highway earlier this month when another vehicle changed into the same lane.

He slammed on the brakes to avoid a collision but instead of stopping, his Corolla accelerated.

He subsequently bounced off one car, went over the median into oncoming traffic and finally came to a stop when he drove into a snow bank. The crash tore up the vehicle's front end, causing $10,000 in damage, WISN reported.

Background
On January 21, 2010, Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) and the NTSA announced the recall of approximately 2.3.million vehicles due to accelerator pedal defects.

That recall comes on the heels of another one involving Toyota floor mats.

On September 29, 2009, the Associated Press reported that Toyota would recall 3.8 million vehicles in the United States to address problems with a removable floor mat that could interfere with the vehicle's accelerator and cause a crash.

According to the AP, Toyota said it is the largest U.S. recall in its history.
