August 14th, 2005 (eastoregonian.info)

Anyone who suffers a severe brain injury has an increased risk of epilepsy, especially if seizures occur within a few days of the injury. Drugs such as cocaine and Ecstasy also are known to cause seizures. Other causes of epilepsy include brain damage before birth, infections such as meningitis and encephalitis, brain tumor, stroke or bleeding in the brain, or a family history of seizures. However, many people with epilepsy have none of these risk factors.
