4 Badly Hurt as Van Flips on Garden State Parkway

    May 10th, 2006 (nytimes.com)

Seven people were ejected and four of them critically injured when a van carrying nine people flipped over on the Garden State Parkway yesterday afternoon, the New Jersey State Police said.

The van was returning to the North Jersey Developmental Center in Totowa from an outing at Sandy Hook, officials said. In the van were four men, all 18 or 19 years old, who lived at the center; four staff members, including the driver; and a physical therapist under contract to the agency, the police said.

The vehicle, a red 2000 15-passenger Ford, then cut through three lanes of traffic and flipped over twice down an embankment. All seven passengers in the rear seats were ejected, and two were pinned underneath the vehicle. The driver and a passenger in the front seat, the only two who were wearing seatbelts in the van, remained strapped in, the police said.

2 seriously injured in accident on Kennedy

    May 7, 2006 (suntimes.com)

The driver of a van involved in a rollover accident on the Kennedy Expressway was seriously injured after he climbed out of the van and was struck by another vehicle in the express lanes, state police said Sunday.

A passenger in the van was also injured. Apparently the van rolled over in the southbound local lanes and ended up in the northbound reversible express lanes, an Illinois Department of Transportation dispatcher said. The dispatcher added the accident possibly involved an ejection.
