Help for Veterans at the Mt. Gay Vet Center

The Mt. Gay Vet Center is located in Mt. Gay, WV 25637. The Center provides services to veterans.

Tests for asbestos exposure should be administered to people who fit the description below. The following is a list of people at higher risk of developing an asbestos-related disease:

  • Individuals with breathing problems
  • People with prolonged exposure to asbestos
  • Anyone who thinks they have had ongoing exposure to asbestos
  • Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related vocations, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no noticeable symptoms or difficulty breathing
Certain illnesses have been linked to asbestos exposure: Mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), lung cancer, and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The most commonly known symptoms of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these symptoms of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.

It is vital to seek a medical opinion if you feel that you have been exposed to asbestos. The usual mode of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Other tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy.

If you or someone you love has developed mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos, we want to help.  Your time is limited to file an asbestos lawsuit, so complete the form on this page for a free evalution of your case.
