Could you have been exposed to asbestos? Read the following to see if you fall under a category at risk. General attributes of these people are those that have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos in a limited amount of time, troubles with their respiratory system, ongoing contact with asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have dealt in asbestos-related areas even if the one who was involved with asbestos has no visible symptoms.
Certain illnesses result from asbestos exposure: Mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), lung cancer, and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The warning signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the detectable symptoms of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is imperative to seek a doctor's advice if you believe that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Other tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy.
If you or someone you love has developed mesothelioma after having contact with asbestos, Weitz & Luxenberg can help. Your time to file a claim is limited, so contact us today for a free case evaluation. The form below initiates the process.
