Washington Senator Patty Murray Comments on Women Veterans Healthcare Issues
In May 2008, Senator Patty Murray, D-Washington, along with the other members of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee (Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), Jay Rockefeller (D-West Virginia, Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Blanche Lincoln (D-Arkansas), Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) and Charles Schumer (D-New York)), introduced legislation to improve healthcare for women veterans.
The legislation is designed to address the unique needs of women veterans. Sen. Murray encouraged the passage of legislation that would require Veterans’ Affairs to conduct comprehensive studies of women veterans' care and create programs to provide child care for veterans needing mental health services.
