Merck, Maker of Vioxx, Loses in New Orleans Court
August 17, 2006
Weitz and Luxenberg was responsible for Merck's second loss regarding Vioxx,
a heart attack-inducing pain medication. Today, Merck loses once again.
A jury in New Orleans ruled against the drug manufacturer, holding them
responsible for the heart attack suffered by a former FBI agent. Gerald Barnett,
62, was rewarded $50 million after enduring quadruple bypass surgery. Jurors
agreed that Vioxx was to blame for Barnett's heart attack, not his history of
heart disease.
Vioxx was recalled in 2004 when clinical trials linked the
drug to heart attacks and strokes. Since then, many thousands of lawsuits have
been filed against Merck, all of which the company plans to fight in court.
If you or someone you know has been affected by Vioxx, now is the time
to seek help and possible compensation. To find out if you have a case, fill out
