Jury rules for Yamada in wrongful death lawsuit

HAWAII- A Hilo Circuit Court Jury today found Tetsuya “Grizzly” Yamada was not responsible for the September, 1996 shotgun slayings of his ex-wife and her daughter as charged in a wrongful death lawsuit. The jury also found Puanani Haili, who was married to Yamada at the time not responsible in the deaths of 50-year old Carla Russell and 23-year old Rachel De Cambra.



Liberty finalizes settlement of a wrongful death lawsuit this week.

Howard Hylton, whose father, Vernon, died from injuries sustained at the Liberty Community Center in 2003, sued the city for an alleged dangerous condition on public property. Under the settlement agreement, Liberty's insurance company will pay $237,500 to Vernon's four children, Howard, Randy and Roy Hylton and Mildred Hoskins. According to the lawsuit, Vernon struck a moving wall partition at the community center Nov. 24, 2003, and suffered injuries that led to his death.



Testimony begins in wrongful death lawsuit

Officer Michael Breen testified in U.S. District Court Wednesday in the trial of the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Victoria Cooper, who was killed six years ago. Cooper, 41, a West Haven mother of two, allegedly drove at Breen after a traffic stop on Route 80 on July 13, 1999. Breen fired twice. The first shot glanced off the vehicle's hood on an angle. The second shot struck the driver's side window, then Cooper in the side, killing her.
