Malpractice lawyers: Were your health problems the result of a wrong prescription?
A jury awarded $1.6 million to the family of a Pennsylvania woman who died in 2003 after being given the wrong heart medication prescription, according to the News Journal on June 21, 2008.
The woman was prescribed 80 milligrams of Sotalol, which keeps the heart beating normally in people with certain rhythm disorders of the ventricles.
Tragically, the drug was the wrong medication for someone on dialysis. She also was given four times the appropriate dosage for someone in that condition.
All too often, such medical errors become nightmares for patients, who must suffer the consequences of a health care practitioner's mistake.
