Women Taking the Oral Contraceptive Yaz at Increased Risk for Serious Health Problems

Weitz & Luxenberg is no longer accepting cases regarding Gallbladder complications and Yaz. The folllowing is for informational purposes only.

Our lawyers are currently investigating cases of women who have been prescribed Yaz, Yasmin or Ocella (the generic form of Yasmin) as their method of birth control who have developed gallbladder disease or other serious health problems.

You can complete the form on this page for a free, confidential review of your potential Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella lawsuit.

Unfortunately, as the popularity of Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella increased, a number of reports revealed that the women taking these two drugs were at increased risk for serious side effects, including gall bladder disease, blood clots, pulmonary embolism (PE) or deep vein thrombosis (DVT), heart attack or strokes.

While woman are more likely than men to develop gallbladder diseases, the risk for women with no other risk factors for gallbladder disease or gallstones has been shown to be higher in women taking medications that contain forms of estrogen, which includes Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella, as well as for women taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) drugs.

Gallbladder Diseases and Symptoms
The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ located under the liver. The gall bladder’s function is to store bile, a substance produced by the liver that helps the body to digest fat.

For women of childbearing age who are not taking oral contraceptives or other estrogen-containing medications, those at increased risk to develop gallbladder include women:
