Weitz & Luxenberg attorney Ellen Relkin will discuss nuances of litigating complex mass tort cases, including best practices for multijurisdictional coordination, at two conferences in late July in San Diego, California.

As a former chair of the American Association for Justice’s Toxic, Environmental, and Pharmaceutical Torts Section, Ms. Relkin will discuss the complexity and nuances of settling mass tort cases at the Everything You Want To Know About Mass Torts (But Are Too Afraid To Ask) seminar. The seminar will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26, at the San Diego Convention Center. The seminar is also available to watch remotely via livestream.

The following day, Ms. Relkin will sit on a distinguished panel of law professors, judges, and practitioners from the defense and plaintiff perspectives at the Pound Civil Justice Institute’s Aggregate Litigation in State Courts: Preserving Vital Mechanisms forum, a full-day educational program for state court appellate judges attending from more than 30 states. Ms. Relkin, the Immediate Past President of the Institute, will participate in the panel discussion on Rethinking Multijurisdictional Coordination of Complex Mass Torts.

“Mass tort cases are often unique and complex, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my 30 plus years of experience at the two conferences occurring in San Diego later this month,” said Ms. Relkin.

As the co-chair of Weitz & Luxenberg’s Defective Drugs and Devices Practice Group, Ms. Relkin has represented thousands of clients harmed by defective medical products, and has resolved some of the most complicated mass torts cases in the U.S., including the DePuy ASR and Stryker Rejuvenate implant litigations, whose settlements jointly exceeded $5 billion.

In 2018, Ms. Relkin was named one of the Top 100 New York Lawyers and Top 50 New York Women Lawyers by Metro Super Lawyers, as well as a Super Lawyer in New Jersey. She was the recipient of the New Jersey Association for Justice’s (NJAJ) prestigious Gerald B. O’Connor Award. Ms. Relkin is a Certified Civil Trial Attorney in New Jersey and an elected member of the American Law Institute.
