Home Firm News Xiidra Eye Drops Use May Result in Long-Term Vision Impairment

Our attorneys are investigating injuries to individuals using Xiidra eye drops who have suffered potential permanent vision impairment.

Patients using Xiidra eye drops have reported experiencing blurriness and reduced visual acuity almost immediately after use. In some cases, this reduced visual acuity has been reported to persist for several months. Additional side effects, per the Xiidra label, may include: conjunctival hyperemia, eye irritation, headache, increased lacrimation, eye discharge, eye discomfort, eye pruritus, and sinusitis.

Xiidra (lifitegrast ophthalmic solution) 5% eye drops are approved for use to treat signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED). Xiidra eye drops were approved by the FDA in July 2016.

The recommended dosage for Xiidra is one drop twice daily (approximately 12 hours apart) into each eye. Consult your doctor before stopping any prescribed medication.

No Warning About Potential Vision Impairment

There is no warning in the Xiidra label about the possibility of reduced visual acuity, despite this being mentioned in the label as a common side effect reported in 5-25% of patients during clinical trials. Reduced visual acuity is only listed in the adverse reactions section in the label.
