Fracking: Oil & Gas Summit

Weitz & Luxenberg Co-Sponsor of The People's Oil & Gas Summit

Weitz & Luxenberg is proud to co-sponsor the EarthWorks Oil and Gas Accountability Project's 2010 People's Oil and Gas Summit, which will be held on November 19-20, 2010 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 

The Summit brings together people from across the country living and working in communities adversely affected by unconventional gas drilling (including horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing) to share experiences and information, build bridges, and increase capacity.  The Summit also features some of the most prominent scientists and activists.  The Summitwill cover a range of topics, including health effects, community and socio-economic effects, and strategies to better address the myriad issues associated with the natural gas bonanza.

"Unconventional natural gas drilling in the United States is resulting in environmental and health problems that are quickly becoming among the most significant problems we will face this decade," says Julia LeMense, an attorney in Weitz & Luxenberg's environmental toxic tort unit who has been working on behalf of individual clients, as well as in collaboration with a number of non-profit environmental organizations, to confront the harms caused by this extractive industry."
