Weitz & Luxenberg attorneys Ellen Relkin and Robin Greenwald will discuss mass torts and pharmaceutical litigation at two upcoming conferences this October in Las Vegas and New York City.

Ms. Relkin, Practice Group Co-Chair of Defective Drugs and Devices, and Ms. Greenwald, Practice Group Chair of Environmental Pollution and Consumer Protection, will both be speaking at the Mass Torts Made Perfect Seminar (MTMP) in Las Vegas from October 22-24.

Ms. Relkin, who focuses on medical device liability and toxic tort matters, will participate in the panel entitled “Mass Torts Settlement Concepts and Practices” on October 22 at 11:15 a.m.

Ms. Greenwald, who has litigated environmental cases for over 30 years, currently serves as the co-lead counsel in the Roundup MDL in San Francisco and litigates thousands of other cases against Monsanto in Missouri state courts. She will speak about her experience working on these cases during the “2019 Roundup Litigation: Multiple Trials on Multiple Battle Fronts” panel on October 23 at 2:15 p.m.

“Holding corporations accountable for public health – and giving people the opportunity to choose how to protect themselves from contamination and dangerous products – is the right of every citizen. When that right is violated, the court system is often the only means for injured people to receive justice and compensation for their losses,” said Ms. Greenwald. “I look forward to discussing the lessons learned from litigating these important cases on behalf of the thousands of individuals who have been harmed by Roundup across the country.”

Ms. Relkin will also be speaking at the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Current Issues in Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Biotech Litigation Regional CLE Program in New York City on October 25. There she will debate on the “CSI MDL” – A Forensic Analysis of the Health and Well-Being of the MDL Process panel, presenting the plaintiffs’ viewpoint on the current status of federal multidistrict litigation proceedings, parallel state mass tort consolidations such as California’s JPML and New Jersey’s MCL process, and countering the two defense panelists who advocate strategies for resisting the creation of consolidations. She will draw on her experience as lead counsel and Executive Committee roles in numerous litigations including those involving three different Stryker recalled hip components, the DePuy ASR recalled metal on metal hip, Invokana, and other medical products.

“I’m excited to share my experience in resolving complex mass tort litigations to the friendly audience at MTMP as well as representing the plaintiffs’ viewpoint before an audience comprised more so of defense lawyers and corporate counsel at the ABA’s CLE program held at Pfizer’s corporate headquarters,” said Ms. Relkin.
