Roblox Child Sexual Abuse Litigation – W&L Appointed to Leadership

Roblox Corporation, an online gaming platform for children, and communications platform Discord Incorporated, are accused of “knowingly, recklessly, and deceptively operating businesses in ways that led to the sexual exploitation” of children. Weitz & Luxenberg filed a case on behalf of minor Jane Doe, charging the platforms with misrepresenting their safety practices making children easy targets for pedophiles. The platforms lack safeguards or screening mechanisms to adequately protect children. ⁽¹⁾

In December of 2025, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation created multidistrict litigation (MDL) 3166 and ordered the consolidation of dozens of cases of sexual abuse and exploitation involving Roblox and messaging platforms Discord, Snap, and Meta in federal court in the Northern District of California. On February 17, 2026, Ms. Bolton was appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee, where she will serve in a leadership position in the MDL to advocate on behalf of all victims. ⁽²⁾

“As a mother of a young child, ensuring the online spaces for kids are safe is personal. It is an important issue, and I am honored to have been selected by the court,” she emphasizes.

Holding Online Playgrounds Accountable

The company markets itself to parents as an “online virtual playground,” a safe place for minors to interact, learn, and engage in gaming. ⁽³⁾ However, anyone can sign up and utilize the platforms without scrutiny. This is how pedophiles gain access to children, some as young as 5 years old.

Cycle of Sexual Abuse Created

Roblox has approximately 144 million active daily users. ⁽⁴⁾ The company’s focus is on attracting users and achieving astronomical growth through those active daily users.

“Roblox’s business model allowed the company to attract significant venture capital funding from big-name investors… putting enormous pressure on the company to prioritize growing and monetizing its users. To do so, Roblox made deliberate decisions that placed children at risk,” according to our complaint. ⁽⁵⁾

While the platform is for gaming, it allows message exchanges and communications between players. Once on the platform, predators start friendly communications with minor gamers to build connection, known as grooming.

Then they encourage the teens and children to move to messaging platforms, such as Discord, that allow the sharing of images and videos between users. It is on the messaging platform where the predators begin soliciting sexually explicit material. They offer kids Roblox’s online currency, Robux, in exchange for photos and information.

To keep kids engaged, predators use sextortion. For example, threats to release sexually explicit photos on the internet if the kids tell their parents or don’t cooperate. There are also often requests for in-person meet ups that lead to physical assaults.

Company with a History of Harming Children

This is not the first time Roblox has been accused of immoral actions in connection with children. Roblox is facing litigation in connection with minors illegally gambling on their platform.
